Help students connect the science of movement to patient care
Franklin Pierce University invites applications for a faculty position in its Arizona Doctor of Physical Therapy program. We seek a physical therapist with expertise in exercise physiology who enjoys helping students build a strong foundation in human physiology, therapeutic exercise, and clinical reasoning. The successful candidate will help students carry those ideas into cardiopulmonary physical therapy and the care of patients with complex needs.
This is an opportunity to teach across the arc of a DPT education: from Physiology of Health and Disease in Term 1 and Introduction to Therapeutic Exercise in Term 2 to Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Physical Therapy I and II in Terms 4 and 5. Teaching assignments will reflect the candidate’s expertise and program needs. Our hybrid model combines synchronous online learning with in-person intensive labs in Goodyear, creating room for creative teaching, practical application, and close faculty collaboration.

What you will do

  • Develop, teach, and assess assigned foundational and cardiopulmonary content, including classroom, online, and in-person laboratory experiences.
  • Use exercise physiology to help students connect body systems, exercise prescription, health promotion, and rehabilitation across patient populations.
  • Teach clinical reasoning for cardiovascular and pulmonary conditions, including appropriate considerations for medically complex patients and acute care when aligned with expertise.
  • Work with course and curriculum faculty to align learning objectives, assessments, and student outcomes; use results to improve instruction.
  • Advise and mentor DPT students and contribute to scholarship, professional service, and community engagement.
  • Collaborate with the clinical education team on responsibilities assigned within the faculty workload; specific duties will be defined with the Program Director.

Qualifications

Required
  • A professional degree in physical therapy (DPT or equivalent entry-level physical therapy qualification).
  • Current Arizona physical therapist license or eligibility to obtain one within 90 days of employment.
  • At least three years of clinical experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in exercise physiology and the ability to teach its application to physical therapy.
  • Evidence of effective teaching or mentoring in an academic or clinical setting, or a clear capacity to develop as an educator.
Preferred
  • Experience in cardiovascular and pulmonary physical therapy, acute care, or care of medically complex patients.
  • Relevant specialty certification, such as ABPTS Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Clinical Specialist (CCS), or other pertinent advanced training.
  • An academic doctoral degree (PhD, EdD, DSc, or equivalent), completed or in progress.

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
